It’s officially holiday season, and this week’s best dressed stars certainly looked ready for a festive cocktail party. The most stylish Hollywood A-listers gravitated towards skin-baring ensembles on the step and repeats, choosing designs that had dramatic slits, low necklines, or sheer tulle fabrications. Yes, skin is still very much in—even in winter.
Cutouts had a major moment these past few days. Lori Harvey took to the streets in New York wearing a red-hot gown by Magda Burtrym that had a criss-crossed bust and cutout at the abs. At a screening for The Walking Dead, Danai Gurira also chose Gabriela Hearst’s crochet-style gown from the spring 2023 collection, the delicate construction revealing a discreet bra and brief underneath.
There were also enchanting frocks that leaned into fantasy. British singer-songwriter Cosima performed at a Valentino beauty dinner wearing the Italian label’s ethereal tulle gown, with golden embellishments as piping. The fairytale aesthetic was also present on Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, at the State Banquet this week. Middleton chose a white Jenny Packham cape gown and accessorized with the Lover’s Knot Tiara, both of which were indeed fit for royalty. For a Matchesfashion dinner, meanwhile, Keira Knightley also chose Erdem’s white lace dress with ruffling that was the perfect mix of whimsical and contemporary—a little bit old and new.
